“I have been able to create new things out of fresh and healthy foods PLUS my little guy is slowly warming up to veggies because of this. It’s helped him realize where things come from and that veggies can actually taste good. With a bag full of fun new surprises at our door it’s become an adventure to try new things. He’s had such a fun experience with these bags. He’s learning different ways to cook. We are very grateful for this opportunity.”

How it works

Farms to Friends is possible because of amazing volunteers, donors and local farmers. Bi-Weekly farmers deliver food to our Castlegar office where volunteers help organzie the produce into reusable cloth bags. Volunteer drivers then bring the free, healthy food to the doorsteps of participants in the 8 rural communities around the West Kootenays.

Brad is one of the many volunteers who believes everyone deserves healthy, local and affordable food.

“When I was growing up, there were a few times that times were tough for our family. I remember one year that my Dad had to work 2 jobs to keep us fed and pay the bills, I was 10 and my brother was 8. We never saw Dad except once or twice a month which put a strain on our mother. That year was the year that I learned how to really use my brain but it was a rough year for my mom. Farms to Friends takes some of that pressure off a family with kids, ensuring they have access to healthy nutritious food without adding stress on the family as a whole.”
