Meet the families

We are so proud to be able to serve 75 incredible families with this program. Fresh healthy food is vital for growing kids and a happy family. We are thrilled to be able to deliver food grown by local Kootenay farms every week. We hope to inspire anyone who eats the food through our program, to start thinking about growing fresh food themselves in their own gardens or windowsills.

Kristina, a mother participating in Farms to Friends (not pictured) said:

“It’s Christmas every week! A strong sense of humility was felt on my part: failure; for either being needy and not succeeding with my own crop and with a loss of income. It touches on survival needs and also creates beautiful connections. I am so grateful for being able to experience this big wave of generosity. It is felt at a deep level and touches my heart and soul. I kind of understand how hard it could be to farm. From building the soil, planting, caring for the land and sharing abundance. It could be so gratifying. I am so blessed and spoiled to receive this incredible bounty at my door.”

Meet the Volunteers

Veronica, a weekly volunteer says (pictured above):

“Farms to Friends is an excellent program. I am very happy to be a volunteer delivering those organic vegetables to families and others who are very grateful to receive them each week. When delivering the bags they thank me and tell me how wonderful it is to receive these fresh organic vegetables. They also said they couldn’t afford to get these on their budgets.  There are many single Moms & a couple of families that have spouses & 3 kids to support with a very limited monthly income. Having the weekly veggies, eggs helps the families to eat a balanced meal & this in turn helps with a healthier life for those families.

The Eco Society has done a great job with this program and my hope is that they will continue to get funding so they can provide healthy options to these families in the Kootenay areas.

Thanks to all the staff there for caring about the community. You all do a wonderful job and I am proud to be a part of this. Thanks especially to Craig & Laura  for Instituting this wonderful program. You guys ROCK”
