Being mindful usually isn’t seen as a first step to renewable energy, but why not? The more aware we are of our impact, the better we are able to address our own patterns.
Read the Q & A below to find out why Castlegar Centre for Contemplation and Justice has joined over 30 businesses and organizations in supporting the West Kootenays to transition onto 100% renewable energy by 2050.
Q. Why did you sign on to support 100% renewable energy?
A. The impacts of climate chaos will be borne first by the most vulnerable, even though it was the wealthy who are largely responsible for the accumulated greenhouse gases. This is unjust. We want to make the situation right, by encouraging wealthy jurisdictions to wean off of fossil fuels as quickly as possible.Q. What are you already doing or planning on doing to make your business more energy efficient and/or transition to renewable energy?
A. We heat and illuminate only the spaces we use. We travel by active modes whenever possible. We encourage others to be mindful of our impacts on the environment, including our greenhouse gas emissions.Q. What kind of personal legacy do you want to leave behind in your community?
A. We want to be able to look back and see that we averted climate catastrophe, and in the process built a better society. We want to see that we were a part of that transition to a fairer, more secure society.
