Never heard of Advanced BioCarbon 3D (ABC3D)? Not surprising!

This new start-up is just gearing up to burst onto the market with their sustainable plastic. Now, I know those two words don’t sit right together for most of us, but hear me out. ABC3D is pioneering plastic derived from waste wood products, and the result is a biodegradeable, high performance, water-resistant plastic. Read on to find out why ABC3D has joined over 40 West Kootenay businesses and organizations in supporting the transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050.

Q. Why do you want your business or organization to sign on to support 100% renewable energy?
A. A thriving society depends entirely on the health of the planet. We cannot wait any longer to ensure we implement environmentally sustainable options for energy, products, food, transportation and all other aspects of human life. Businesses can be a powerful force for good and we embrace this objective at ABC3D.

Q. What are you already doing or planning on doing to make your business or organization more energy efficient and/or transition to renewable energy?
A. Our process is powered by hydroelectricity and is a closed loop system where there is no waste or emissions, meaning all the outputs from the system are brought back in as inputs. Our first products are 3D printing filaments with engineered quality, so it will be possible for homeowners to generate their own goods to repair or replace items. This will enable localized manufacturing and reduce transportation costs and emissions to move products around the world.

Q. What kind of personal legacy do you want to leave behind in your community through your business or organization?
A. ABC3D envisions a future where communities can get more of their needs met locally while reducing greenhouse gases. Because our process will be designed in containers that can be established at the wood source to generate our bioplastics, people will be able to create the products they need right in their region. This will empower neighbourhoods to produce local goods, provide jobs, maintain forest health, reduce greenhouse gases and ignite creativity in design, while being self sufficient.
