We’re working for people. We want people to have clean air, land and water, feel safe, feel loved and have healthy and happy homes. This is what social justice and environmental justice means. In Canada, the US and across the world, Indigenous people, black people and people of colour experience disproportionate violence, and it needs to stop.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, no one deserves to suffer violence from those who are supposed to protect them, like the police. The murder of George Floyd has put all of this in the spotlight with the biggest protests against racism in the history of the US.

In Canada, racism is still going strong. 26 year old Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation woman, Chantel Moore, was killed by police, who went to check on her, doing a “wellness” check. The violence against people of colour continues even as protests across Canada, the US, and the globe are growing in support.

Black Lives Matter, Indigenous Lives Matter, the Lives of People of Colour Matter.

We join Climate Action Network Canada and stand in solidarity and pledge to work to stop racism, white supremacy, colonialism and any violent, institutionalized injustice that both worsens and is made worse by the climate crisis and the loss of nature.
