The science is clear: one of the most important tools we have in the fight against climate change is intact forests. We need better management of all forests in BC. We need forests managed with the long range forecast of their benefits. West Kootenay EcoSociety joins the Sierra Club of BC has called for a province-wide day of action to tell the BC government to protect our old growth forests.

June 6 is a day of action to deliver letters to our MLAs to send a message to the BC government that they must take immediate and decisive action to enact a moratorium on old growth logging in critical hotspots, including our inland temperate rainforest here in the West Kootenays.

We’re sharing the message to encourage people to participate in Nelson on Thursday, June 6, starting at 12 pm, in front of our MLA’s office. Can’t make it to Nelson? Organizers are planning events in 14 communities and counting.

Your help is essential to ensuring we make a splash with this day of action. Please join your friends and neighbours on June 6 to support the movement to protect old growth forests. It’s critical that we show that British Columbians’ concern for forests is strong and only going to get stronger.

This article from Sierra Club shows some of the impacts of old growth logging happening right now on Vancouver Island.
