Earth Day! What a day to kick-off this year’s membership drive! This month we’re putting on a series where we’ll be featuring members, volunteers, staff, market vendors, and more who will be sharing their story about why the EcoSociety matters so much to them.

To start us off, it is my pleasure to feature the lovely Diana van Eyk. Diana is truly an invaluable part of the EcoSociety team – as a core volunteer, a sustaining member, and our Wellness Coordinator, Diana keeps us happy and healthy in our workplace through her support and dedication. Here is her story about why she has decided to contribute her time and resources to the EcoSociety:

“The precarious times we’re living in compel me to do all I can to make a positive difference in the world. I feel a responsibility to help the world to become a place that is healthier and more just, and to connect with like-minded others to intensify our impact. And it makes sense to me to do that in the community I live in.

That’s why I’m involved with the EcoSociety. It’s a truly grassroots organization that’s in tune with our local society. Outdoor markets help local farmers and food producers, and the 100% Renewable Kootenays campaign invigorates the sustainable initiatives in our region.

I understand the roots, motivation and objectives of the EcoSociety. They inspire me, and represent the values that are close to my heart.

It makes sense for me to put my time, energy and money into this organization that does so much for Kootenay communities.

Here’s a blog post that explains why I’m an activist. I hope it inspires you to get involved.”

Indeed, if you are inspired, you can sign up to become a member right here on our website. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated.
