It might sound strange, but Farms to Friends feels like our baby that was born in the pandemic and blossomed into this beautiful child we have nourished and loved. That’s why we are thrilled that Farms to Friends has reached an incredible milestone that was only possible thanks to the support of our amazing volunteers, donors, and sponsors. We thank you all for generously donating and selflessly investing your time for the good of the community!
The program was conceived to provide local food security during a time of global supply chain issues stemming from uncertainty and fear. As inflation continues to soar to record-breaking heights, Farms to Friends continues to provide stability to participants while stimulating the local economy. Over $150,000 was invested in the local economy through the support of over 30 farms and food producers. Farms to Friends continues to support 87 families and seniors in various communities in the Kootenays including 36 single parent families. The program continues to prove to be vital as the cost of living continues to increase.

Past and present program users have expressed their gratitude for the weekly operation of this program. “I just love that we get fresh organic produce I don’t have to go to the grocery store and pick over germy veggies. I get a different variety of vegetables which is great because I have a picky 5-year-old so I can experiment with different recipes. I especially appreciate that my kids can watch their mom in the kitchen with the variety of items. It is a good learning experience. It also teaches them the difference between the store-bought food and produce in comparison to the Farms to Friends food,” says Christa, Castlegar, Farms to Friends participant.
