Title: Outreach Coordinator
Start Date: As soon as possible
Terms: $20/hr, 10-20hrs/wk
Location: Online from home (unless office re-opens), in-person travel in West Kootenays, BC

Neighbours United, (formerly known as West Kootenay EcoSociety) is a non-profit community-driven organization that brings together local residents to protect the natural environment while building just, equitable, healthy, and livable communities. Neighbours United coordinates hundreds of volunteers and outreaches to rural residents each year to build sustainable communities and protect our natural world. 

The outreach coordinator will support the education of rural residents around the Kootenay region, connecting with racialized communities through leadership development and community engagement on local climate and energy solutions.

All new staff are required to complete anti-oppression training upon starting with EcoSociety if they have not previously completed similar training in the past two years.

EcoSociety is a Living Wage Employer. Currently, this is a work from home position, and a quiet space to work is required. Employment benefits include:

  • 4 weeks paid vacation (prorated), with flexibility around dates to accommodate staff needs
  • Work from home $50/month allowance (reimbursement) and paid 30 mins daily exercise (prorated), while offices closed due to COVID
  • Supply technology needs for work from home, as required

  • Connect with local racialized and low income community groups and support their climate and energy needs on their terms 
  • Outreach, organize and deliver presentations to community groups and stakeholders, including attending local events and markets 
  • Coordinate with volunteers to support in educating members of the public and businesses on climate and energy issues and solutions 
  • Support writing climate and energy solutions communications 
  • Research and write climate and clean energy solutions reports
  • Maintain data within database
  • Support website development and content updating 
  • Follow all COVID-19 protocols to work safely in communities
  • Participate in leadership development and anti-oppression trainings
  • Meet regularly with supervisor and supporting staff


  • Driver’s license or ability to get around region using transit
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Available to work for at least six months (26 weeks)
  • Good communicator, written and verbal; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional ability to be curious and listen without judgment
  • Experience working successfully in teams and independently
  • Ability to summarize information clearly and communicate to varied audiences
  • Ability to follow COVID-19 and other workplace health and safety protocols
  • Community organizing experience preferred 
  • Passion for Justice, Equity, Inclusion and Diversity work
