After years of dedicated hard work, we have a final West Kootenay 100% Renewable Energy Plan to celebrate! There is no way this would have been possible without the ongoing support of you, the people who dare to dream that a better way of doing things is possible. We are well on our way to the future we all deserve, and that is something to be proud of.
Today I want to say thank you. Thank you for adding your name in support of the transition to 100% renewable energy, thank you for giving your input on the plan, thank you for talking to your friends, family, or neighbours about the clean energy transition. Thank you for being part of action together that truly does make a difference.
Our collective work cannot stop here. Together we need to continue to build new support across the political spectrum and across our communities. Let’s help our local governments and keep the momentum moving forward to make sure that this renewable energy plan, the first of its kind in Canada, is implemented right away in a way that makes sense for your community.
Our volunteer teams shared what this big moment means for them:
“Being a part of and supporting the transition to 100% renewable energy is essential for the future of next generations, like my daughter. As a local nurse, health is so important to me and I think this goal is vital for the health of our community and the plant and animal ecosystems we share it with.” Olga, Castlegar Team.
“I grew up in Indonesia and there is a lot of pollution in our cities. I am so happy that in my new home in Nelson I can be a part of the transition to 100% renewable energy where there is less pollution and wildlife will be protected and preserved.” Arya, Nelson Team.
“I’m filled with pride to know that I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer with an organization whose goal is creating healthier, safer communities and battling local climate change. The engagement organizing skills I learned with the EcoSociety has made me into a better leader for youth in my community.” Caitlin, Castlegar Team.
“When COVID-19 hit, I was so grateful to be a part of the EcoSociety volunteer team. I had a great summer volunteering and I’m excited for Rossland to take steps towards a healthier future.” Payton, Rossland Team.
“Volunteering with the EcoSociety’s 100% Renewable Kootenays campaign has been a great way to engage with my community and to build a little optimism in the face of a lot of pessimism and polarization around climate. As communities throughout the West Kootenays make resolutions to adopt the 100% renewable energy and I feel more encouraged than ever that the work that has gone into this campaign is and will continue to be so worthwhile.” Andrew, Warfield team.
It is because of our volunteers and supporters, like you, that together we have been able to achieve this huge milestone. We are leading rural and small town Canada to a clean energy future.
Please join us today by celebrating at home (in this weird COVID moment) over four years of working together to make a positive change right here in our own backyards.
