Council votes to adopt your 100% Renewable Energy Plan!

Last night, Slocan Village Council voted unanimously to officially adopt the West Kootenay 100% Renewable Energy Plan! This means that Slocan has joined other small, rural towns like Kaslo, Warfield, Rossland, Castlegar, and Nelson as leaders in the transition to renewable energy.
The Village of Slocan has identified the following strategies as having the greatest impact on carbon pollution:
- Develop an electric vehicle charging strategy so that having an electric vehicle would make sense where you live.
- Invest in public and active transportation so that travelling can be more affordable and accessible.
- Increase efficiency in new buildings (Step Code), and adopt a voluntary standard for retrofitting older buildings. This means that we can afford to heat our houses while reducing our carbon footprint.
- Composting organics and capturing landfill gas to further reduce waste in your community.
“It was amazing to hear Slocan’s Village council unanimously vote to adopt your 100% Renewable Energy Plan at last night’s meeting! With the impacts of climate change feeling more present than ever during this wildfire season, this is proof that the transition to a renewable energy future has momentum and is getting stronger across the region.”
