We’re hosting two bioblitz field trips this summer. Join your neighbours to learn about the threatened ecosystems and identify plant and animals at-risk in the West Kootenays. 1) Grohman Narrows Provincial Park is a treasured wild space that may be at-risk of industrial development. Join us on August 7th at 11am near Nelson 2) Proposed Zincton Resort Development is home to animals like the Selkirk caribou, Northern goshawks, and western toad. Join us on September 11th at 11 am near New Denver.
We will meet at the parking lot of the Grohman Narrows Provincial Park at 11 am, then head into the park together. We will have invasive species booklets to share, and some other wildlife identification materials. Download the Seek app for an excellent real-time plant identification resource on your phone. Be sure to bring supportive footwear, a camera (phone is fine), water, snacks, sun protection, and an openness to learn and connect with your neighbours.
Registration is required for all attendees. Click here to secure your spot.
Once you have attended the Bioblitz event, please share your photos on social media or the iNaturalist project (more details given at the event), and then fill out this form to enter the Photo Contest. Prizes will be awarded on August 14th for the Grohman Narrows Bioblitz; all prizes are from local businesses in the Kootenays.
Together we can hold our communities accountable to protect our wild spaces from pollution and destruction so that they can be enjoyed for generations to come. Please join us in celebrating the natural beauty of our backyards; bring your friends and neighbours too!
