Municipal elections are coming November 15 throughout the Kootenays. This is your chance to shape the future of our region, not just for the next four years, but for many years to come. Here are some challenges that municipal leaders will face in the next four years:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Preparing for more climate change impacts
  • Reducing the risk of interface fires while protecting important ecosystems
  • Maintaining the biological diversity and aesthetic beauty that sustain our communities and our economies
  • Supporting the astronomical growth of local food systems and farmers’ markets
  • Responding to citizen’s demands for more accountability and engagement

To help you ask questions and choose the right candidates, West Kootenay EcoSociety has prepared a detailed list of  issues (PDF) that you and your chosen candidates should consider.

A local group of concerned citizens has also prepared a survey of candidates in Nelson, Castlegar, and surrounding rural areas. The questions, and their results, are available at http://candidateenvironmentsurvey.wordpress.com/
